You know, we have beaches in California too, and with more sun. But we also have THE 5, not I-5. I’ve heard from other Washington residents that may be a dealbreaker.

I wish my life was like tha beach.

I was visiting relatives in Santa Barbara before a conference in Orange County. I said I could one way a car or take Amtrak. Their response: “No matter what you think of Amtrak, the train’s the way to go.”
![]() 02/13/2018 at 22:44 |

And they’re so right. Unless you go at two in the morning, trying to get from Santa Barbara to Orange County would take days, and you’d be screaming the whole time. Amtrak is so nice, especially compared to Metrolink. I always take the train if I can.

Tom Cochrane or GTFO.

That stretch from Santa Barbara to Burbank Airport may be the prettiest train ride in the whole world, especially if you take it right around sunset.

You live in a cool area. The area between Bellingham and Everett is fantastic in my books.

Going down to San Diego is even better. And going up to San Luis is also very pretty, although, it’s even prettier to drive that, in my opinion. I don’t mind driving up to San Luis because I can take the 154 up, which is a god damn hoot , and then take the 101 all the way back and stop at UCSB to get some authentic Freebirds.

Yeah I am a schmuck and still haven’t done anything between Goleta and Monterey. I need to fix that at some point. I have also failed to make it to San Diego, wife has to go there a lot for work and is not inclined to make the trip for fun.
In any case I approve of your
Priority:Burrito
routing.

I still haven’t dragged my ass up to Monterey yet. My mom has gone for work and she was actually on the track at Laguna Seca. I was rather jealous. But she is a person so she appreciated where she was at.

Gof I can’t wait to get out there. Can you believe I told my wife today that we don’t *have* to move? Felt dumb as the words were coming out of my mouth
![]() 02/13/2018 at 23:53 |

How does she feel about moving?
![]() 02/13/2018 at 23:55 |

Putting “the” in front of road names will indeed draw some snark around here.

She thinks I am as dumb as I felt for letting those words out
We’re all in. Even trying to win that HGTV dream home lol

“Hi I’m Nibbles.”
“And I’m Mrs. Nibbles.”
“Our budget is 4.7 million dollars.”
![]() 02/14/2018 at 00:14 |

Observation: everyone including myself says “I-5" but no one says “I-405.” We just say “405" and certainly never “THUH 405.”
![]() 02/14/2018 at 00:15 |

And referring to the 5 as “I-5" or US 101 will get you committed.
But I will concede that The Californian’s on SNL is pretty much spot on. Especially the bit about giving directions.

HAH
More like “Our budget is $600,000, but we’ll take that grand prize as long as you’ll let us take a mortgage out for the taxes”
![]() 02/14/2018 at 00:28 |

$600,000 can still get you something real nice where you’re looking. At least for the time being.

Yuop. That’s kinda the max too; most places we’re looking at - albeit more rural than I initially expected - are in the low-to-mid 400s which is a good place to be
With like three acres, 2200+sq ft and a shop. Like, two standard bays and a 14' bay shop

As an Australian, I can quibble about your definition of ‘beach’ but I strongly support the sentiment regardless.

Winters are mild and wet. It was a low of 27F last night

Ha yeah I used to hop over to the coast when I got stuck in Silicon Valley. Never at the right time of year though, sadly.

Around here, “I” is only used for 5, and maybe sometimes for 90. The rest just get the numbers.
So you take the 405 to the 110, the 110 to the 101, and the 101 to the 5? :)
![]() 02/14/2018 at 09:41 |
|
Yep, I only recall “I” for 5 or maybe 90. Never heard it for 405, 167, etc.
I recall people in Whatcom county put “the” in front of local roads: “The Guide”, “The Smith Road”, “The Hannegan”, etc.

So how would you refer to another freeway in a sentence then?
Referring to a street as “the” is weird. It also makes zero sense. At least with a freeway “the 5" comes from saying “take the freeway.”
